June 27, 2009 - The file choosing function has been found not working with the latest Firefox 3.x, IE 8.x, Safari 4.x or Chrome, where the full file path can not be obtained correctly when adding data files. Before this problem is fixed, you can manually type in the file path and name, or use IE 7.x, Firefox 2.x, Safari 3.x and before.

About

CisGenome Browser is a light-weighted stand-alone genome browser running on Windows platform. The use of CisGenome Browser is very easy, and the interface is similar to other genome browsers, such as the UCSC Genome Browser. It is also quite easy to incorporate CisGenome Browser into other programs/softwares.

CisGenome Browser is suitable for visualizing microarray/sequencing/other biological data generated by the users themselves. It runs locally so that there is no need to upload the user data via internet like adding custom tracks when using UCSC Genome Browser or any other online browsers, which may take quite a long time when the data is large or the internet access is slow. CisGenome Browser is very light-weighted (the excutable file is less than 1MB). It is also a green software, so that it can be used immediately after being downloaded. There are also some other features in CisGenome Browser that are currently not supported by any other browsers. For example, CisGenome Browser can display a region of the genome by rescaling different parts of that region so that some interested parts (such as some particular exons or probes) will be zoomed in and highlighted.

CisGenome Browser was originally designed as part of the CisGenome Project. However, it is also a stand-alone software itself. You could find a lively tutorial on CisGenome Browser as a section of the tutorial for the whole CisGenome software written by Hongkai Ji. The CisGenome paper is published in Nature Biotechnology.
